COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS

Malvern Public Library:  Our beloved local library had a children’s room that needed updates in 2012/2013.  Our club committed to raising funds to provide murals, shelves, book bins, benches, and cushions. Our club raised $1000+ through read-a-thons, lemonade stands, toy sales, and donations.  Special thanks to member and local realtor Michelle Troha for her $500 donation to the library after she successfully sold another member’s house.

Soldier’s Angels: Club members partnered with the Malvern Memorial Day Parade Committee to support Soldier’s Angels, a group that helps support deployed soldiers serving out country overseas.  We set up a collection drive for basic necessities such as toiletries and socks to ship to overseas soldiers.

Sunrise Assisted Living Facility Halloween Celebration:  At Halloween time, club member’s children dress in costume and attend a Halloween Parade at the local assisted living facility.

Other Charities:  Through the sales of cookbooks, coloring books, handmade hair accessories, baked goods, and donation cans at events such as Malvern’s Victorian Christmas celebration we have raised hundreds of dollars for charities such as the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias, The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

Adopt-A-Family from Home of the Sparrow:  The club has “adopted” a family (sometimes two) from a local organization, Home of the Sparrow, that supports homeless and low-income women and their children.

Malvern Victorian Christmas: Every year, a few families (including dads) brave the cold weather to volunteer and decorate lamp posts around town.  By helping to decorate and hang holiday greens and lights on the lamp posts in the Borough, our members help make our town a festive attraction in the weeks surrounding our annual Malvern Victorian Christmas celebration.

Support for our Members:   Our club has provided unconditional support and assistance to some of our own members whose husbands have passed away, by cooking meals, donating items, and making monetary donations to college funds. We also make meals for club families when new babies arrive.

Support for Other Local Families:   We help other local families, including for a family whose 2-year-old developed Neuroblastoma, by delivering meals after the family returned from chemotherapy at CHOP.

Support for Disaster Victims:  When hurricane Sandy devastated the coastlines of NJ and NY, one member spearheaded an effort to help impacted families.  In one short week’s time, the club was able to spread the word, collect donations, and stuff two school buses full of supplies for victims of Hurricane Sandy which were delivered directly to Atlantic City and a distribution point in Trenton.

Greentree Park:  In 2010 the Moms Club of Malvern worked on a proposal to add new and improved playground equipment to Malvern’s Greentree Park. More than 500 signatures were collected in support of the plan.  A few members decided to form a group called “Friends of Greentree Park.”  They worked together to collect over $30,000 in donations and grants (in addition to a 25k match from the township) to build the new playground which was completed in the Spring/Summer of 2012.

International Moms Club Mother-to-Mother Fund:  Our club makes an annual donation to the International Moms Club Mother-to-Mother Fund (used when personal or natural disaster strikes Moms Club members).
