Unknown Space

Unknown Space

“Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in Him.” Jeremiah 17:7 (NIV)

Have you ever been in a space where you felt confused or didn’t know what to expect? I know I have. This has been a significant part of my life since becoming a mom. I am a mom of two beautiful kiddos, and my oldest child has a unique ability. My daughter, who is now 9 years old, was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called CACNA1A when she was 5. Less than 1% of the population has this rare genetic disorder, which also means there is a limited amount of information and resources to understand this medical diagnosis. My husband and I do not know what to expect for her future—my vision of what motherhood was supposed to look like has changed. There were many unknowns, feelings of uncertainty, a lack of control, and just waiting to find answers so we could help meet our daughter’s needs.

I felt alone and lost. I experienced a lot of anxiety, especially when we had to attend doctors’ appointments and wait for test results. I kept asking God many “Why” questions. However, I held onto my faith to help overcome those emotional moments and prayed through the unknown.

My strength comes from the Lord, so I would meet with God in the early mornings, read my Bible and devotionals, and journal my thoughts and feelings. All I could do was trust God! I remember reading Jeremiah 17:7 (NIV): “Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in Him.” One day, I came across the story in the Bible of Jonathan’s son, Mephibosheth, who was lame in both feet. God watched over him because Jonathan, his father, trusted God’s word and did good in the Lord’s eyes (2 Samuel 9:1-13 NIV).

Mama, even during challenging times, God has got you! Within this unknown space, God will strengthen you, guide you, develop your purpose, and change you for something bigger. I’m so grateful God has provided me with a community of other mamas walking this same path. During challenges, we may not know or understand God’s plan or how He will use it for good, but our God is good! Equip yourself with the Word of God each day. Remember, Mama, you are not alone, and you are loved. I am praying with you and for you!

Blessings and love,
