Prayer is Essential
Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Jeremiah 29:12 says, “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.”
Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
From a young age, I was taught that prayer is essential, sacred, and worthy of deep respect, something that is, to a great extent, indispensable for living. Prayer not only creates the beautiful habit of acknowledging God and His sovereignty, but it also forms a deep channel of trust between our hearts and His.
When we teach our children to communicate with the Lord through prayer, we equip them for life. As adults, when they face hardship, they will know instinctively to seek God as their refuge. It will be as natural to them as breathing. Their faith will be powerful, resilient, and unshakable. And the schemes of the enemy: fear, discouragement, pain, or depression—will not succeed. That is why we must cultivate a culture of faith and prayer in our homes.
I remember reflecting one day on the Lord’s omniscience. He knows the beginning from the end. Nothing is hidden from Him. So then, why do we pray if God already knows everything? The answer is both simple and profound: God did not create prayer for Him to learn something, but for us. We are fragile, vulnerable people who desperately need hope and refuge. Through prayer, we, who cannot see the future, learn to rest in the promises of God, in His mercy, and in His abundant grace.
Prayer is vital for our mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Uncertainty causes fear and anxiety, but having someone to turn to for help and comfort brings peace. It brings joy, kindness, self-control, faith, and love.
