Living a Lifestyle of Prayer: Seeking Truth in Prayer

Seeking Truth in Prayer

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2 NIV

Have you ever felt like the weight of life is stacking up on your shoulders?

It doesn’t usually start that way. But as the first few complaints or worries of the day begin, it’s as if small stones are being carefully stacked upon your spirit. One by one. And slowly, you start to feel heavy. Your patience wears thin. Your responses become less filled with grace. You’re tired, again, and already counting down the hours until the day is over because of all the nonsense weighing you down.

I can’t be the only one this has happened to! And yes, I may laugh now, but let’s be honest some days bring us to tears.

If you’ve ever felt this way, or if you’re feeling it right now, Sweet Friend… let’s take a moment to shift directions.

Recently in my studies, I’ve become fascinated with the original Hebrew text of the Bible, particularly the first five books, known as the Torah.

You might be wondering, Why? Especially when the weight of the day is already pressing in. But stay with me, Friend♡ Because understanding the original meaning and heart behind the words the authors used can completely transform how we experience the Bible today.

(And just so you know I’m a wife, a mother of two littles, a homeschool mom, and I work full time. I know the weight of those stones. There was a time I felt like I was being dragged into deep waters. But God… He found a way to teach me more about Himself every day. And He can do the same for you.)

Let me share a beautiful Hebrew word with you: Ruach (pronounced rue-oc).

Ruach appears in Genesis 1 to describe God’s Spirit as it hovers over the deep, dark, chaotic waters of creation (Genesis 1:2). I love this image, it shows that even in the beginning, God’s Spirit was separate from chaos and darkness. Isn’t that something we all need to focus on more?

Ruach also describes the life-giving Spirit of God, the same Spirit that gave life to every living creature (Genesis 1:3-27). It’s not just symbolic; it’s active, real, and personal.

And Ruach can also mean the very breath of God, His living, moving presence, often experienced as the wind (Genesis 3:8). His breath is the wind itself, gently brushing against us in the most intimate ways.

Just imagine how the author of Genesis experienced God: not as a distant deity, but as a Father whose presence could be felt, surrounding them, moving with them, breathing life into every moment.

Walking by the lake near my house recently, I meditated on this, on God’s Ruakh. As I admired the trees and mountains reaching toward the heavens, the breeze picked up and tossed my hair, just like my dad used to do when I was little.

And even though the weight of those stones had been pressing on my shoulders all morning, I couldn’t help but smile. In that breeze, I felt God’s Spirit gently caress my cheek, reminding me that His presence surrounds me.

The breath in my lungs felt more like a gift than a given, borrowed grace, not something to take for granted. And in that still moment, I understood: God’s presence is so much more important than the worries that try to stack themselves on my shoulders.

As I prayed, I asked God to show me the truth about those heavy stones.

And you know what He showed me?

He loves me, and He loves the people He’s placed in my life. He trusts me to lean into His presence and give those heavy stones to Him. And when I do, I can look at those around me with His eyes, with His love, and respond the way He would.

He also reminded me that I never have to live without Him. It’s not even possible—not with every breath filled by His Ruach.

Because of Jesus, because of His love and His sacrifice, God can remove every stone, every weight, if I let Him. And day by day, He will grow my understanding of His living presence, so I can walk in His joy, no matter what I face.

Friend, His Ruach, His Spirit, is always with you. Tangible. Real. Loving.

Let the wind remind you today: You are never alone.
