God Hears and Helps
“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16
Mama, do you ever feel like you aren’t enough for this “mom” job? Jesus understands exactly what you’re going through! He had 12 disciples and I imagine it felt to Jesus a bit like having 12 children. Now granted, they were all potty-trained and dressed themselves, but still… they didn’t always listen, they argued about who was His favorite, they fell asleep when He needed their support, and one ultimately betrayed Him.
Jesus gets it. He understands our exhaustion and our frustrations. And He wants to help us.
Here are a few simple ways to partner with Him throughout your day:
Start your morning by waking up a few minutes before your kids. If this feels hard, ask God for HELP! He will help you get up and give you those precious quiet moments to fill your tank before you pour out all day.
Begin with a prayer:
“Help me to be the mom You want me to be. Speak through me. Love through me. Help me be present and engaged. Holy Spirit, fill me.”
(Holy Spirit means God in us!)
Just like you might grab a cup of coffee or tea mid-day, don’t forget your mid-day cry for HELP! God is available all day long. When you are tired, He gives strength. When you need wisdom, ask! The Holy Spirit will show you things you need to know about your children.
Evenings can be tough, don’t forget to ask for HELP then too! I am so exhausted by the time I put my four boys to bed, but bedtime is such a tender opportunity to invest in them. Often, that’s when they share things they haven’t said all day. I take time to listen, sing a song, and pray.
Let me share a story about how our nighttime prayers impacted my oldest son. Each night, I prayed the “5 L’s” over him:
-
Leader
-
Listener
-
Learner
-
To know God’s Love
-
To show God’s Love
When I received his first report card, his teacher wrote that he had “enthusiasm for learning, is a superstar listener, and is kind to his classmates.” My heart leapt! God had answered so specifically. Our prayers not only move heaven, but they also shape our children’s identity and remind them who God made them to be.
Sweet mom, pray prayers that inspire your children, prayers that lift their heads and call out the gold in them. Say things like:
“Thank You, Lord, for making my son strong and courageous, kind and bold.”
Pray Scripture over them:
“God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
Psalm 91
Psalm 103:2-5
Avoid praying shaming prayers like, “Forgive my son for being a bad boy!” Our children will feel embarrassed and may not want to turn to God when they struggle. Instead, speak life over them.
Pray this with me:
Father, in Jesus’ name, thank You for choosing me to mother my children. Empower me to be the mother You created me to be. Help me pray bold and encouraging prayers for and with my children. Amen.
Declaration:
I declare that my prayers are powerful and effective. I speak to this day and call it blessed. I serve a good God who will do exceedingly and abundantly more than I can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).
With love,
